Thoroughly Thoreau
In a Cabin I do Dwell,
With Bird and Tree for Friend.
I walk Amongst the Sunlit Rays;
Three Bean-Rows I do Tend.
I collect Flowers in my Hat.
Fox and Raccoon Know my Name.
I sketch Worm into my Notebook;
For Lichened Rock I do the Same.
From these Scant Sketches,
A book of Mine Shall Emerge.
Advocating a Life Like Mine,
Singing the Materialist's Dirge.
Suck Deep from the marrow of Life,
Simple, present, and Deliberate.
For a Life half-lived is one-half Dead -
You might as well be an Invertabrate!

Love your life half-lived/half-dead analogy. When I was growing up I heard so many say 'if only' and realized I had to go out and grab life or it would leave me with 'if only' pangs...your poem says sooo much, Meg. You're very, very talented.
Meg - very clever! I love Thoreau and was delighted to read your poem.
