About Meg North

This blog is about my passion for creative writing. I began writing stories in elementary school, started my first chapter book at ten and my first full-length novel at sixteen. I've finished one novel, Daniel's Garden, which has received rave reviews from those who have read it. I'm working on a sequel, as well as a dozen other novels.

My favorite thing to write about is the 19th century. Both "Daniel's Garden" and its sequel, "Daniel's Lions," take place during the Civil War of the 1860's. "The Heart of a Lie" is set during the winter of 1868-69, just after the Civil War. My height-of-the-Victorian-era stories include "The Magic Pen," set in 1871, "The Curtain Falls," set in 1881, and "Typeset," set in 1890. I haven't forgotten the Edwardian era, either: "Fields of Lavender" is set in 1899, "Visit to Plum Nelly" is 1906, and "Motorcars and Mayhem" is 1910.

Another writing genre of mine is fantasy, so several stories are set in distant lands. "Atlantasia" is an Atlantis-type time-travel story about two sisters who journey from the island of Crete to a magical future world. "The Pelago Legacy" is about a fantastical nautical journey. "Magician Manor" has as its setting a magical Victorian mansion and "The Nightmare Brigade" stars a teenager who leads a group of friends to fight evil.

I live in Portland, Maine with my amazing husband and funny pug. I also give tours at the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow House, allowing me to share my favorite time period. It's a joy.
